SUBMISSION STATEMENT
It’s hard to not imagine a life that may have been so many years ago. Our province has a beautiful, rich, history when you look for it. I find so much is unwritten, demolished, built over… forgotten. The architecture that has stood the test of time, man, the elements; evoke such an immense, deeply rooted emotion that it is difficult to express.
A word I came across I think that describes what I am trying to capture is Hiraeth (pronounced here-eyeth). A welsh word, with Celtic origin, that does not have an exact English translation. It can be defined as an intense form of longing or nostalgia for a place long gone, or an unaccountable homesickness for a place you have never visited or maybe never was. Through my photography I am exploring the many facets of being. The realm of memory, experiences, tradition, and the division between all of these. An alienation that stands from what was and what is.

The images are captured with my Nikon DSLR using various lenses. Post processing was inspired by the gelatin silver processing popular throughout the 19th century, completed on my laptop.
